More than a badge: What B Corp reaccreditation means to us
On a cold and crisp 5th December morning, we received the confirmation we had been waiting for – SMRS has achieved B Corp reaccreditation.
It’s hard to describe how I feel at this moment. What I do know is that it’s a reflection of something deep-seated within our culture – the drive to do better for the world. For those who know me, you’ll know I shy away from lofty statements, but this one I stand by because I truly believe it.
I’ve spent most of my career at SMRS, and there’s a reason people stay here. You find your people, yes – but more importantly, you find shared purpose. Our purpose is simple: Opportunity should be open to everyone. That purpose binds us, even with our different perspectives and drivers.
It’s this purpose that aligns with B Corp and its mission to transform the global economy to benefit all people, communities, and the planet. We’re proud to be part of that network, proud to hold ourselves to rigorous standards, and proud to embrace transparency and accountability.
Reaccreditation isn’t the finish line – it’s a milestone in our ongoing journey to balance profit, people, and planet. It’s not always easy, but nothing worth doing ever is. B Corp gives us the framework to think differently every day, to challenge ourselves, and to lead positive change.
I was asked recently how I’d like to be remembered in a leaving speech. For me, fairness, honesty, and growth matter most – and B Corp reinforces these values at SMRS. It helps us stay fair, be honest about our decisions, and create opportunities for growth for our people, our clients, and the communities we serve.
Our SMRS values – Think Bigger, Naturally Explore, and Give a Damn – are at the heart of this. Hold these close and you’ll always make a difference. And that difference comes from everyone. It’s woven into our culture, and it’s a shared pride when you see B Corp brought to life.
Holding B Corp status is not just a badge – it’s a promise. A promise to keep striving for better. And that’s something I’m proud to say we’ll never stop doing.
